On day three we drove from Ceiba to Ponce. About half of the drive was along cliffs overlooking on the Caribbean Sea, as you can see below. About half of the drive was through a desert that was painfully hot, where the sun scorched so piercingly that it burned our scalps and we had to stop and put the roof on the Jeep.
In Ponce we stayed in the Fox Delicias Hotel. It was right on the main square, Plaza Las Delicias, and was a converted 1920s movie theater--Thus the name Fox Delicias. The hotel was more or less abandoned, which was puzzling since it was so cool.
The ceiling in the lobby of the hotel.
Here's the early-20th century Cathedral in the plaza.
We saw everyone eating ice cream, so we just followed the stream and found a tiny ice cream shop on a side street. There were lots of seemingly interesting flavors, like peanut and corn, but we stuck to safer choices: pineapple and coconut, if I recall.
Something really neat-o about the Plaza was this 19th century FIREHOUSE! Now it's just a museum, with free entry. The docent complimented my earrings.

Later that night, the fountain in the plaza was lit up in brilliant colors.
Oh, and look, Ponce even has a TV station called PEG!
We really enjoyed Ponce and discussed the esteem of its various universities. Evan needs to work on his Spanish before we seek out jobs at Puerto Rican universities, though. Anyway, we had another half day in Ponce, as you'll soon see...

OMG, I am so happy to see you blogging. It looks like you had a great time in PR. Keep up the blogging. I have no idea what is going on in your life otherwise.
Do you and Evan want to come up for Thanksgiving or Christmas? We would love to have you here.
We thought about coming up for Thanksgiving, but Mom and Dad are coming to Charlottesville, instead. Christmas we're going to Oregon, but what do you say about Spring Break? We've really been wanting to get to Canada, and Rochester's a good launching off point!
